View From the Beauty Closet: David Bowie’s Sick Makeup Skills

David Bowie Makeup Sketch.jpg

Backstage at fashion week, makeup artists use face charts to show their teams how to execute the look they’ve created. Well, it appears David Bowie used a similar method for his concerts. This is his own drawing, detailing one of his colorful Glam Rock–era makeup looks. My friend, London-based makeup artist Georgina Graham, spotted the sketch at the David Bowie Is exhibition currently showing at the Victoria & Albert Museum and sent it to me with the note, “What a man!” What a man indeed—just look at his contouring skills!

Bachelorette Beauty Scoop: Why Desiree Hartsock’s Mascara Doesn’t Run When She Cries

Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock
If you haven’t spent Monday nights for the last 26 (!) combined seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette glued to your television, congratulations (seriously, how do you resist?). But if you were watching The Bachelorette last week, then there’s a good chance you were crying your eyes out right alongside Desiree Hartsock, who got rejected by Brooks in one of the realest moments of the show’s history. For those of you who aren’t as obsessed as I am, a brief recap: Desiree has been ready to wed Brooks practically since day one, but he has never been all in. In part one of the finale last week, he told her he was leaving the show because he couldn’t see himself proposing—and then, perhaps in an effort to get him to stay, she told him she loved him (that’s the first time a bachelorette has said those three words before the Final Rose). Cue the emotional breakdown.

One-on-One With La La Anthony

la-la-anthony-kate-devine.jpgLife is good for La La Anthony. Actually, it’s fabulous: The former MTV veejay juggles acting jobs (she just finished filming Baggage Claim with Paula Patton), a reality show (La La’s Full Court Life), her makeup line (Motives for La La), and a family—and she does it all without having so much as a hair out of place. I’m not the only one to notice: She just teamed up with Caress as the skin-care brand’s newest ambassador—a group of women named Fabulistas. Anthony filled us in the one part of her beauty routine she never skips, her latest nail look, and more:

The Allure Deskside: Ciara’s Beauty Secrets

Ciara visits Allure
When I first caught sight of Ciara in Allure’s lobby, I almost didn’t recognize her. Her signature blown-out locks were gone, and I found myself gawking at this glowing beauty with wild, curly hair and tomato red lips, in a midriff-bearing top and sky-high Louboutins. Turns out she was rocking her “vacation hair” from a trip to Mexico. I sat down and talked with her about her very deliberate beauty regimen, her favorite scent, and the hair mistake she’ll never make.

Pedicure Saboteurs (and How to Avoid Them)

perfect-pedicure.jpg
If you’re like, oh, everyone else, you probably have a pedicure right now. And if you’re really like everyone else, it’s probably also at least a little bit chipped. Even if it’s only a week old. And for good reason: Sneaky factors can sabotage your pedicure, before you even open your nail polish. But once you know what they are, it’s easy(ish) to avoid them.
